iOrchestra was a project of the Philharmonia Orchestra. It was a unique opportunity to step inside an extraordinary orchestra. Over two years, more than 120,000 visitors took up that opportunity in Plymouth, Torbay and Cornwall.
In the iOrchestra Tent visitors experienced RE-RITE and Universe of Sound – deconstructed digital orchestras, in which musicians from the Philharmonia and Principal Conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen performed Igor Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring and Gustav Holst’s The Planets and allowed visitors to explore the pieces and the orchestra from the inside out.
In the iOrchestra Truck we toured MusicLab, a mobile pop-up play and create experience which allowed visitors to step into the shoes of a conductor, a composer, a cellist, a percussionist and more and gave the chance to learn about the orchestra and participate in making music with the players themselves.
Everything that iOrchestra offered led towards a live orchestral experience. Through a programme of Live Concerts - both for the public and in a specially created schools' programme - we brought the full Philharmonia Orchestra to Plymouth, Torquay and Truro.
Before, during, and after each of these events, we created and supported opportunities for composing, performing, dancing, animating, exploring and inhabiting the world of orchestral music.

Who is the Philharmonia Orchestra?
You may not have heard of the Philharmonia Orchestra but you may well have heard us. We're often on the radio, and are the musicians playing the soundtracks to films such as Avengers: Age of Ultron; Thor: The Dark World; and Hercules, and video games such as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. We're also one of the busiest orchestras in the UK, performing more than 160 concerts a year in our home base in London, throughout the UK and around the world. We've loved meeting you through iOrchestra and we hope to continue to share the world of orchestral music with you as with build a legacy for this amazing project.
